About Our Instructional Videos

"From Zero to Brainiac in a Few Hours"
If you have ever looked over the shoulder of someone who really knew their stuff, you know that this is the fastest way to learn. Typically they can walk you through a set of complex instructions in a fraction of the time it would take to train yourself through a book. The problem is having that friend or colleague available anytime and every time you need to review something.
That is where we come in. Our videos are recorded by experts who show you step-by-step how to use the latest software. You hear their voice and see every movement on their computer screen, as if you were sitting right beside them. Best of all, they are always there.
Our videos, sometimes referred to as "Quickstarts" can reduce training time from days to just a few hours.
"I have to say, signing up for these videos was the best 20 dollars I ever spent, after 80 dollars in books and long hours of reading, I learned more my first day with your videos then I did with those expensive books. Now don’t get me wrong I love reading my computer books as quick references. But your videos are cheaper, easier, and faster then reading books. Keep up the great work!"

Since the MMC is the tool used most often when administering Windows 2003 Server, Todd starts the series
explaining what the MMC is, how to use it, how to open up individual Snap Ins using the command line,
how to customize an MMC with frequently used Snap Ins, or customize and lock it to prevent other Admins
from administering your server or other servers on the network.
2 - Local User and Group Management (Running Time: 8:36)
This video thoroughly demonstrates how to add, configure, administer and remove Local User Accounts
and Groups. Todd also spends time explaning how to add users to groups, and provides short cuts
to help speed common administrative tasks like changing passwords for users.
3 - Creating and Managing Shared Folders (Running Time: 11:20)
Windows 2003 Server, at its core, is all about sharing information, and this video shows how to
share files with users while making sure that they should only view the files they have been
given access to on the network. This video will demonstrate how to create Shared Folders and
explains the options available, adding Permissions to users and groups on Shared Folders, Connecting
to Shared Folders from client machines, and creating a Mapped Network Drive. He also shares some
"secret" tips on how to view all Shares on a Server and even how to connect to "Hidden" shared folders.
4 - Configuring and Managing Shared Printers (Running Time: 13:35)
The video begins by demonstrating several ways to add the Print Server Role, how to use the
Add Printer Wizard to install a printer and share it, how to find it on the network, etc. Then
Todd address some more advanced concepts like allowing older clients (Windows 95, 98, NT 4.x)
to install compatible drivers for their operating systems, how to create a network printer
and a TCP/IP printer and creating a TCP/IP Port, load balancing printers by enabling pooling,
setting printing permissions, and much more.
5 - Local Security Policy (Running Time: 10:17)
Watch as Todd uses the Local Security Policy Editor to set security policies to enforce password
restrictions (ex. age and complexity of password), allow users and groups certain rights on the server,
audit various events generated by the server, and how to lockout users who might be attempting
to guess passwords for an account. He also shows how to assign user rights to modify or
manage just about every security option on the server. This is an important video when learning
about Windows 2003 Server's security options.
6 - Basic Disk Management (Running Time: 15:01)
This video thoroughly explains the differences between Logical vs. Physical Disks, Basic vs.
Dynamic Disks, and Primary vs. Extended Partitions and Partitioning and Formatting. Todd explains
the implications of your choices when setting up your disks on the server. Todd uses
the Disk Management Tool create and format partitions, extending volumes, mounting partitions in
NTFS folders, modifying drive letters and paths, and a lot more.
7 - Advanced Disk Management (Running Time: 17:00)
Todd explains Volume Sets, what is RAID and how does it work, and the differences between and
benefits of RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 5. He demonstrates how to set up RAID in Windows 2003 Server by
using Mirroring (redundancy/parity), Spanned Sets (speed), and Striped Sets (Striping with Parity).
8 - Managing NTFS Permissions (Running Time: 14:11)
This video explains NTFS (NT File System) Permissions, how to change and utlize File and Directory
Access Permissions Sets, how Inherited Permissions work, and how to break inherited permission links.
Todd spends a lot of time explaining the ramifications of inheritance and how it will effect the
documents and folders you create and move around the file system.
9 - Remote Administration (Running Time: 7:57)
Remote Administration's new features are highlighted
in this video. Todd demonstrates how to set up and configure Remote Administration on the server
and on the client, and discusses security, performance and drive/printer mapping options.
10 - DHCP (Running Time: 10:54)
Todd demonstrates how to use Windows 2003 Server's Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)
service to manage network configuration settings for each client. He explains which options to
select when using the DHCP Scope Wizard (exclusions, lease durations, gateway, DNS and WINS settings,
etc.) He then shows how to activate and de-active scopes on the server, and how to review other
scope settings, such as the Address Pool, Leases, Reservations and briefly overviews many of
the scope options available.
11 - Installing and Managing IIS 6.0 (Running Time: 26:59)
Internet Information Services 6.0 is thoroughly explained and demonstrated in this video. Included
is basic installation and configuration settings, and goes through and sets up an example instance
of a website, an FTP site, an SMTP service, and a newsgroup using IIS 6.0, and much time is spent
on security, authentication and access/permission settings for each type of site or service. This
video alone will pay for the price of this video series!
12 - Mail Server (Running Time: 16:52)
Windows 2003 Server now includes a simple, yet powerful email server and this video demonstrates how
